Light marbles — Carrara, Estremoz — are preferred for their historical authenticity.
Contemporary style
The contemporary fireplace favours clean lines, geometric volumes and raw materials. A monolithic marble block, a minimal steel frame or a firebox set into a polished-concrete wall create maximum visual impact with economy of means. Existing flues must be inspected and, if necessary, lined in accordance with DTU 24.1. Bioethanol fireboxes, while exempt from flue requirements, must comply with NF D35-386 and room-ventilation requirements.
